Nice will host the United Nations Conference on the Oceans in 2025
February 13, 2023
In June 2025, France will host a global event, bringing together heads of state and government from around the world for a week. This event, which France has never organised before, is the United Nations Conference on the Oceans: UNOC 2025. The city of Nice was chosen by the President of the French Republic and the United Nations to host this international summit.
Reaction of Christian ESTROSI, Mayor of Nice, President of the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis, Delegate President of the Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur Region:
“I am delighted that the President of the Republic and the United Nations have chosen Nice to host this global event. This is a fair recognition of Nice’s commitment to the preservation of marine environments.
Faced with the challenges of climate change and the erosion of biodiversity, Nice is implementing a concrete ecological transition, the effects of which are already being felt in terms of air quality, modes of transport, preservation of water resources and protection of ecosystems.
The choice of the President of the Republic to choose Nice as the host city for this international summit also comes, a few months after its inclusion in UNESCO’s World Heritage List, as proof of our city’s ability to prepare and host the biggest international events in the service of France’s influence.”
