Nice Côte d’Azur, first metropolan area to invest in the Metaverse
February 24, 2023
With its entry into the Metaverse*, Nice is pursuing its desire to present itself as a genuine “laboratory for new technologies and innovative cultural practices”.
As part of NICE2028, the Masséna Museum has created its digital universe on Spatial, opening a new virtual gateway to the cultural influence of Nice Côte d’Azur.
This innovation is supported by Patrick Moya, a pioneering artist from Nice and an expert in the use of virtual worlds in the service of art, who will shed light on the contributions that the #Metaverse can make to #Culture, and enable the City of Nice to “connect the unexpected”, the theme chosen for its candidacy as European Capital of Culture in 2028.
The Musée Masséna was chosen to take part in the fictional world of the Metaverse because it is a major cultural landmark in Nice and its location on the seafront offers beautiful views of the Mediterranean Sea.
By means of avatars, the public can enter the heart of the museum, walk through the different rooms, visit the second floor and discover the temporary exhibition “Devenir Fleur” (Becoming a Flower) currently on display at MAMAC. They can also stroll through the gardens of the Villa Masséna.
Visit the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropole space to discover, in the Villa Masséna, the exhibitions of the museums of #Nice06 as well as some digital works of Patrick Moya.
*Originally, “metaverse” is a crossword, composed of the English terms meta and universe. The metaverse is a meta-universe, or a universe that goes beyond the one we know. It is a structured and open virtual world (Wikipedia definition).
