The museum was inaugurated in 1928 in the Villa Kotschoubey-Thomson, a fine example of 19th-century neo-classical architecture. Its collections cover a broad spectrum of art history, from the 12th to the 20th century.
The Museum was installed in 1928 in the Villa Kotschoubey-Thomson, after its purchase by the City of Nice from the American James Thomson. Its collections of painting, sculpture and graphic art date from the 12th to the 20th century. They include Flemish painting from the 17th century, French sculpture and painting from the 18th to the 20th century: Vanloo, Fragonard, Dufy, Chéret, the Barbizon School, Bronzino, Gustave-Adolphe Mossa, Rodin, Carpeaux.
