After the success of Waiting for Godot in 2023, it is with joy that we once again welcome the work of director Alain Françon for this comedy by Marivaux, as sensitive as it is grating.
Dorante is secretly in love with Araminte, a young, beautiful and rich widow. Ever since he saw her walk down the steps of the Opera, he has dreamed of marrying her. Madame Argante, however, has a completely different plan for her daughter: to marry her to Count Dorimont, a man of her social class. Helped by his valet Dubois, he then imagines a stratagem to conquer the heart of the young woman in one day. In an environment where money prevails over love, words become the cogs of manipulation and Dorante's love at first sight leads to Araminte's coup de force.
