Le Mage du Kremlin
Theatre
From 27 to 29 November 2024
Roland Auzet freely adapts Giuliano da Empoli's novel and plunges us into the heart of Russian power, revealing the underbelly of the Putin era and prompting us to reflect on the dangers of omnipotence.
In The Mage of the Kremlin, the author recounts his imagined meeting in Moscow with the enigmatic Vadim Baranov, formerly an artist, largely inspired by Vladislav Surkov, a rap lover, writer and avant-garde theater director who was the man in the shadow of Vladimir Putin. During this story, Vadim Baranov, retired from business and the target of numerous legends, recounts his youth, his life in the 1990s in Russia, his role in the political rise of the “Tsar” and his experience of power.
"In every revolution, there is a decisive moment when the troops rebel against the regime and refuse to shoot. The risk that the troops, instead of shooting at the crowd, show solidarity with them is the eternal threat that weighs on all power."
Giuliano da Empoli
"The Mage of the Kremlin tells how a political system slides towards post-modernism, which gradually takes away all the founding values. In this way, this story concerns us all. The show shows the mechanisms which make this country a frightening laboratory , of what power could become in the future It would be, ultimately, power in its absolute form, based on machines to maintain order and discipline. In this, Giuliano Da Empoli alerts us.
