Anima(ex)musica

Exhibition

From 02 November 2024 to 26 January 2025

The Lympia departmental cultural space hosts the utopian bestiary of the tout/reste/à/faire collective. A set of a dozen giant insects entirely made from fragments of disused musical instruments take over the place.

The collective tout/reste/à/faire, made up of artists Mathieu Desailly, Vincent Gadras and David Chalmin, breathes new life into instruments destined for destruction by transforming them into true works of sound and animated art. Through their movements and undulations imitating the discretion of insects, these monumental creatures reveal the hidden mechanics of musical instruments: the inside of a harmonium, the hammers of the piano or the mechanics of the accordion.

The world of insects being resolutely sound, each creature carries within it a musical composition whose orchestration refers to the instruments used in its manufacture. An amplification system hidden in their base allows the previously recorded composition to be broadcast, which is triggered when the visitor enters their space, contributing to the strangeness of the encounter.
